What is a “Move Over” Law?

“Move Over” laws are becoming more prevalent. Every state has a law that states that you need to move over when you see an emergency vehicle on the side of the road, including police cars, fire trucks, and ambulances.

When you’re driving, you need to pay close attention to where emergency vehicles are located. If you see one on the side of the road, do your best to get to the other lane so that you’re not immediately adjacent to them. If you can’t get over, slow down considerably so that it’s safer for the emergency responders.

At The Sharpe Collection, our goal is to tell you about these laws. Some research has shown that approximately 71% of drivers are completely unaware that the laws exist. If you violate the law, you run the risk of a severe penalty, including such things as fines up to $500 and even jail time.
